Education

Education

The Australian Aborigines are far behind in education when compared to non-indigenous cultures. Because they were so far behind, we knew we needed to take action. Therefore The Western Australian Aboriginal Education and Training Council (AETC) was created. It is an independent body that was established in 1995. Another organization create to help education for the Australian Aborigines is called The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Policy (AEP). It was started up in 1989. Its primary objective is to bring about equity in education and training for Aboriginal Australians. Another objective of this organization is to get the Australian Aborigines able to be involved in decision making relating to their education and training. One other goal of the organizations is to make sure that the government has access to independent Aboriginal advice through effective consultative and advisory mechanisms. As you can see, the Australian Aborigines need a great deal of work to be caught up in education and the standards of non-indigenous cultures. People and the government are actively working on solving the issue.

Reflection
The cultures we have been studying have been very interesting. I had no clue that cultures like this still existed. The fact that these cultures accept languages that they speak and walk around half naked shocks me. It is a culture shock. It would be amazing to go see cultures like this in person. Also about my project and the Aborigines in Australia, its shocking that people still live like that and are in such need of help and education.
